New Zealand Mussels
New Zealand green lip mussels pasta by New Zealand’s finest bear ever!
Right, mussels, need I say more about them? Mr. Fluffy introduced this delicious species to me on my first day in his homeland, and against my wish, it immediately became one of the biggest appetites of mine. Against my wish because it would be really hard or almost impossible to find in mussels (as fresh, big and yummy) in Vietnam, or anywhere else but New Zealand, argggg!
Well then, I made sure to make the best out of it during the trip. We literally had mussels every single days during more than 2 weeks: mussels in vinegar, smoked mussels because they are ready to eat and available in any supermarket in road trips; mussel fritters kept us well fed in 2 amazing party days (and nights) in Splore festival; and the mighty tasty mussels that Mr. Fluffy cooked in creamy white wine sauce in a friend’s lake bach where he did a 10m cliff jump and I made an embarrassing 2m dive haha
Right, supper delicious and presenting beautiful memories, that’s why it felt like Christmas in June when I found frozen mussels in a Western food shop. Better frozen than no mussels at all eih? And of course I made the expert cook them, and here’s the result :S
The thing about Mr. Fluffy is he doesn’t always cook, but when he does, he effortlessly makes sure that his cooking put mine to shame. No crazy details, not too much work, super tidy and neat kitchen all along the way (which is absolutely contradict to me, our kitchen looks like hurricane Katrina paid us a visit after I was done in there), and the results always blow!
The scariest thing about Mr. Fluffy is, he’s such a badass at anything he does, not just cooking! Sometime I even feel like it’s healthy for me to be jealous with myself for having him in my life haha
Right, now in return, I don’t have much to offer but this illustration for his beautiful dish. I haven’t mastered the using of these water color pens yet, but at least I’m trying, and getting there 😀
Reunite again in Feb 2015, mussel friends!
